BERLIN/ISTANBUL (AA) - Humanitarian organizations gathered Wednesday in front of the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin to demand protection of international law in the Gaza Strip.

Doctors Without Borders, Cadus, Care Germany and Save The Children demonstrated to draw attention to the situation in Gaza and demand more aid be allowed into the enclave.

Demonstrators symbolically carried a long red cloth to emphasize that the protection of international law is a “red line.” They held signs that read: “Stop the war on children,” “Protect international law,” “1 million children are starving and traumatized, ceasefire now,” “Protect healthcare facilities,” and “Protect civilians.”

They called for humanitarian aid in Gaza not to be exploited and urged the German government to make efforts to stop Israel’s obstruction of independent aid organizations operating in Gaza.

At the same time, French humanitarian organizations staged a protest in Paris, with demonstrations pouring red food coloring into the Fountain of the Innocents in the Les Halles district.

"This act aims to denounce France’s slow response to the dire humanitarian emergency currently affecting the population of Gaza," the Medecins du Monde organization said in a statement.

Greenpeace France, Oxfam France, Amnesty International France and Eko were among the groups participating.
