Hundreds of demonstrators in Sweden march against Israel’s genocide in Gaza

Protest part of national solidarity movement with Palestine, activist Greta Thunberg tells Anadolu

STOCKHOLM (AA) - Hundreds of demonstrators, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, marched to the Swedish Parliament on Saturday, demanding an immediate halt to Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Protesters carried signs reading “Free Palestine, Free Gaza,” “Stop the Genocide,” and “Boycott Israel,” as they chanted slogans such as “Children Are Being Killed in Gaza” and “Freedom for Palestine.” Many demonstrators also condemned US support for Israel’s military actions, accusing Washington of complicity in war crimes.

Speaking to Anadolu, Thunberg said the demonstration was part of a nationwide solidarity movement with Palestine. She called for an immediate ceasefire, the end of the Gaza blockade, and an end to the occupation.

Justice and the end of colonialism must be pursued not only through words but through concrete actions, she said.

Thunberg added that Stockholm has hosted weekly protests for nearly two years in support of Palestinian rights and that demonstrators remain committed to advocating for peace until it is achieved.

Oruba Abu Hammam, head of Stockholm Palestinian Academics, echoed the call for an end to Israel’s military actions. She urged the international community to cancel trade agreements with Israel and impose a weapons embargo.

Abu Hammam accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza and called on governments to act swiftly to lift the food embargo.
