Hungarian diplomat Csaba Korosi elected UN Assembly president
Korosi to assume office from Abdulla Shahid in September

WASHINGTON (AA) - Hungarian diplomat Csaba Korosi was elected Tuesday by the UN as the president of the General Assembly's 77th session.
The 193-member body picked the new leader after Abdulla Shahid, president of the 76th Session, finished his one-year term.
Korosi will assume the post from Shahid in September and will serve until September 2023.
He served as Hungary's envoy to the UN from 2010 - 2014.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated Korosi on his win.
"Congratulations to Csaba Korosi of Hungary, who has been elected President of the 77th #UNGA session. My deep appreciation to @abdulla_shahid for his exceptional leadership as @UN_PGA during this 76th session," Guterres wrote on Twitter.
