Hyundai’s GV80 SUV surpasses 100,000 cumulative sales in US

ISTANBUL (AA) - Hyundai Motor’s GV80 SUV has surpassed 100,000 cumulative sales in the US, just five years after its launch, Yonhap News reported on Sunday.

The GV80, introduced in 2020 in the US, one of the largest auto markets, reached 100,446 units sold as of last month, driven by strong consumer interest, according to Genesis, luxury vehicle brand of the South Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company.

From January to August, the US sales of the GV80 rose 20% year-on-year to 17,009 units, representing 40% of its global sales of 42,489 units during the same period.

According to market research firm Cox Automotive Inc., the model’s average transaction price in the US increased to $64,766 in August, up 4.2% from $62,132 a year prior.

The company aims to achieve global sales of 350,000 units by 2030, a 55% increase from its forecast of 225,000 units for this year.

However, it remains uncertain whether the GV80 can sustain its sales momentum through the end of the year, as rising US tariffs on South Korean car imports may dampen demand.

On July 30, South Korea and the US reached a preliminary agreement in which the US committed to reducing “reciprocal” tariffs on South Korean goods and lowering auto tariffs from 25% to 15%, in exchange for South Korea’s pledge to invest $350 billion in the US and other assurances. But the auto tariffs have yet to be reduced.
