GENEVA (AA) - Two volunteers from the Sudanese Red Crescent remain missing, more than a week after a deadly attack on aid workers in North Kordofan, a state in Sudan, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said on Tuesday.

On Oct. 27, five IFRC colleagues, volunteers of Sudanese Red Crescent, were killed during a food distribution in the city of Barra.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, IFRC spokesperson Tommaso Della Longa said "three were missing at the beginning after the incident, one is now safe."

He explained that one of the volunteers was found on Oct. 28, a day after the incident, without sharing further details.

"Another two are still missing, and we don't have any information about them" he added.

Calling the situation "very complex" and "particularly sensitive," the spokesperson said they "don't have a full picture and clear information."

In a statement after the attack, the IFRC had said it was "horrified, shocked, and deeply saddened" by the killings and reiterated that "any attack on humanitarian teams is unacceptable."

Since the conflict between the paramilitary RSF and Sudan's army began in 2023, the Sudanese Red Crescent has lost 21 staff and volunteers. Globally, 25 Red Cross and Red Crescent workers have been killed in 2025.
