Indonesia: 6.4 magnitude quake kills 14, injures 162

ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from 6.4-magnitude earthquake, which struck the popular tourist island of Lombok in eastern Indonesia on early Sunday, has reached to 14, local media reported.

Indonesian authorities at West Nusa Tenggara said the quake also left 162 people injured and over 1,000 buildings damaged, according to the Kyodo News Agency.

"We are still updating data and emergency measures have been taken," National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho tweeted, indicating that the figures may increase.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred about 1 kilometer southwest of the Lombok at 6.47 a.m. local time (5.47 a.m. Jakarta time), at a depth of 7.5 kilometers (5 miles). It was also felt in neighboring Bali.

Among the dead was a Malaysian woman, who was about to climb Mount Rinjani and was part of a group of 18 Malaysian climbers, according to the authorities.
