Indonesia arrests suspect for preparing terror attack

TUBAN, Indonesia (AA) – Indonesian anti-terror forces arrested Tuesday afternoon a suspect accused of having links to Daesh and preparing to conduct a terror attack.

National police spokesman Brig. Gen. Agus Rianto said the suspect, a businessman who leases and repairs computers, was arrested at his home in Central Lampung Regency in Sumatra Island.

Authorities allege that the suspect, identified as Dwiatmoko, was involved in a suicide bombing in Central Java that killed the attacker and injured a policeman ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday last month. He reportedly also has close ties to an Indonesian fighting with Daesh in Syria.

"He is a close contact of Bahrun Naim who has prepared the bomb and will conduct ‘amaliyah’ [terror attack]," Rianto was quoted as saying by detik.com, without providing details about the alleged attack plot.

Authorities believe that Naim masterminded an attack in the capital Jakarta that killed eight people, including four Daesh-linked assailants, in January.

Naim was reportedly also in contact with a group of five men arrested earlier this month for planning to launch a rocket from the Indonesian island of Batam to Marina Bay near Singapore's central business district.

According to police, the Batam-based terror gang has dozens of members across Indonesia and prepares locals recruited to join Daesh in Syria.

Indonesia has been on alert against extremist activities over the past year, further heightening security measures after the January attack in Jakarta.
