ISTANBUL (AA) - Indonesian authorities have questioned several South Korean nationals as a part of an ongoing investigation into alleged bribery tied to a project involving the construction of a coal-fired power plant, Jakarta Globe reported on Tuesday.

Indonesian government agency the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that it has interrogated several South Korean citizens as witnesses in Seoul regarding alleged bribes related to permits for the Cirebon-2 power plant project.

“The South Korean prosecutors, accompanied by KPK investigators, carried out the questioning at the Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office. This is a good example of cross-border cooperation,” Budi Prasetyo, a KPK spokesperson said on Tuesday.

These interrogations were conducted in February 2025, following official authorization from South Korean authorities.

The corruption case revolves around accusations that Herry Jung, a South Korean national and General Manager of Hyundai Engineering and Construction, along with President Director of Kings Property Indonesia Sutikno, offered significant bribes to obtain permits for their respective projects.

The two individuals have been designated as suspects and are charged with breaching Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Law.
