Industrial production improves in EU, euro area in May

Highest monthly increases recorded in Ireland at 12.4%, Malta with 3.4%, Germany at 2.2%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Industrial production was up 1.7% in the euro area and 1.5% in the EU month-on-month in May, Eurostat said Tuesday.

Annual increases were at 3.7% for the euro area and 3.4% for the EU.

On a monthly basis, in the euro area, industrial production fell 1.7% for intermediate goods, and 1.9% for durable consumer goods, while increasing 3.7% for energy, 2.7% for capital goods and 8.5% for non-durable consumer goods.

On the EU side, industrial production fell 1.3% for intermediate goods and 1.8% for durable consumer goods, and rose 3.2% for energy, 2% for capital goods and 7.1% for non-durable consumer goods.

The highest monthly increases were recorded in Ireland at 12.4%, Malta with 3.4% and Germany at 2.2%.

The largest decreases were observed in Croatia at -2.9%, Slovakia with -2.8% and Belgium at -2.7%.
