Intelligence report warns of rising terror risk in Italy, abroad amid Middle East strikes

GENEVA (AA) - Italian intelligence services warned Wednesday that the risk of terrorism in Italy and abroad is growing amid the ongoing US-Israeli attacks on Iran and subsequent retaliation.

According to ANSA, the annual report by Italy's intelligence agencies highlighted that the situation in Iran is fueling international tensions and raising "fears of an escalation that could also impact the terrorist threat."

The report notes that risks from activities of the Palestinian group Hamas on European soil have increased, particularly regarding "the circulation of weapons and possible hostile plans against Israeli and Jewish targets."

Security officials in the report emphasized that antisemitism is taking on an "increasingly international dimension," cutting across various extremist ideologies. Recent police operations in Italy confirmed the necessity of high vigilance toward terrorist financing and overseas networks, it added.

The report also identified Russia as the "greatest threat to Europe" this year and noted that anarchist groups represent the most concrete domestic threat.

It also raised alarms over the radicalization of minors and the increasing use of artificial intelligence by terrorist organizations.
