Investigation underway over alleged plan to attack mosque in Germany
Investigation reportedly launched into 2 suspects on suspicion of planning attack

BERLIN (AA) - Gera Public Prosecutor’s Office in Germany has been conducting an investigation for the past year on an alleged plan to attack a mosque in the country, media reports revealed Wednesday.
The reports, citing the prosecution, said an investigation was launched into two suspects, aged 27 and 28, on suspicion of planning the attack.
The 28-year-old suspect was reportedly detained and remanded in custody in December 2024, while searches were carried out at the other suspect’s home.
The detention order against the 28-year-old was lifted in late January due to the absence of an urgent suspicion of a crime.
In a response to a parliamentary question from the Left Party in the state assembly, the Thuringia Interior Ministry said the 28-year-old suspect intended to “shoot a large number of Muslims with firearms” in an attack on a mosque.
The response said that no concrete preparations for an attack have been identified, but that the investigation is ongoing.
Reports said the planned attack was recorded in official statistics as a “far-right terrorist offense.”
