Iran ‘committed’ to full implementation of nuke deal

Iran to ‘comply with commitments’ as long as stakeholders comply with theirs, says Iranian foreign minister

By Ahmet Dursun

ANKARA (AA) - Iran is “committed” to full implementation of the nuclear deal as long as other stakeholders comply with their commitments, the country’s foreign minister said on Tuesday.

In a Twitter post, Mohammad Javad Zarif said: “Iran is committed to the full implementation of the #JCPOA: [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] as long as E3/EU implement THEIR economic commitments.”

“So moving forward, Iran will comply with its commitments under the JCPOA in exactly the same manner as the EU/E3 have—and will—comply with theirs. Fair enough?” he said.

His remarks came after Tehran acknowledged that it exceeded the limit of stockpiles, set in the 2015 nuclear deal.

Under the nuclear deal, Iran agreed to destroy its stockpile of medium-enriched uranium and cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium by 98%.

The deal was signed by the U.K., the US, Russia, China, France, Germany and the EU in 2015.

In October 2017 U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would no longer be a signatory to the deal and thus withdrew from the agreement. Shortly afterward, Washington imposed sanctions on Iran.
