BAGHDAD (AA) - Iraq has received the remains of scores of soldiers killed during its eight-year war with Iran, Iraq’s Human Rights Commission announced on Thursday.

Commission member Fadel al-Gharawi told Anadolu Agency that Baghdad had received the remains of 127 soldiers killed during the conflict, which lasted from 1980 to 1988.

Soldiers’ remains, he said, had been found through a joint Iraq-Iran commission and with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

“Search teams are continuing to search for the missing and we hope to find more remains this year,” al-Gharawi said.

“This issue will not be resolved until the remains of all victims are found from both sides,” he added.

The devastating eight-year war between the two countries left hundreds of thousands dead from both sides.

Although the conflict ended three decades ago, the fate of thousands of soldiers remains unknown.
