Iraqi Kurdish region official voices solidarity with Türkiye over Feb. 6 earthquakes

I raqi Turkmen minister in Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government attends fast-breaking dinner in southeastern Türkiye

DIYARBAKIR, Türkiye (AA) - An Iraqi Turkmen official in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) expressed solidarity with Türkiye during an iftar fast-breaking meal for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan also attended by the victims of the Feb. 6 earthquakes.

Aydin Maruf Selim, the minister of state for minority affairs of Iraq’s KRG, attended the event organized by the Turkish Red Crescent in Diyarbakir, southeastern Türkiye.

Speaking to Anadolu, Selim, who is also a member of the Iraq Turkmen Front Executive Committee, said: “The Republic of Türkiye is an important country for us. It is the homeland for Iraqi Turkmens ...”

“We came here from Iraq, from Erbil,” he added, expressing solidarity with Türkiye.

On Wednesday, the KRG dispatched eight trucks loaded with medicine and medical equipment to the victims of the Feb. 6 deadly earthquakes that killed some 50,000 in Türkiye and affected millions.
