Israel arrests Islamic movement leader in dawn raid

JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli police detained a leader of the Islamic Movement in northern Israel in a dawn raid on Sunday.

Suleiman Ahmad Agbaria, the former chief of Umm al-Fahm municipality, was arrested from his home in the town, Israel Radio reported.

No further details were available about the reason of his arrest.

Agbaria has been banned by Israeli authorities from leaving the country for "security reasons".

Israeli police have yet to issue an official statement on the detention.

In 2015, the Israeli government banned the Islamic movement in northern Israel, which is led by prominent Palestinian leader Raed Salah.
