Israel border troops kill knife-wielding Jewish settler

JERUSALEM (AA) - Israeli forces on Tuesday shot a Jewish settler to death after he attempted to stab an Israeli soldier near occupied East Jerusalem, according to Israeli police.

“A Jewish man was killed by Israeli border officers at the Hizma checkpoint north of Jerusalem after he tried to stab an Israeli soldier,” according to a police statement.

Police have since identified the attacker as a 19-year-old Jewish resident of East Jerusalem’s Pisgat Ze’ev settlement.

“The checkpoint was closed following the incident to allow for further investigations,” the police statement read, going on to note that no injuries had been reported among the soldiers manning the checkpoint.

In the immediate wake of the incident, police had erroneously reported that the attacker was Palestinian.
