Israel carries out airstrikes on Syrian capital: Reports

TORONTO (AA) - Israel carried out airstrikes in the Syrian capital early Wednesday, according to media reports.

Citing a military source, Syrian state news agency SANA said that some military points in the southwest of Damascus were targeted at 1.05 a.m. local time (2205GMT Tuesday).

The source told SANA that Israeli aircraft carried out the strikes from the direction of the Golan Heights.

There was no statement from the Israeli authorities on the attack.

Elements of the Lebanese Hezbollah group as well as the Syrian army and Iranian-backed terrorist groups are present in Damascus and its rural areas.

Since the beginning of the civil war in 2011, Israel has been carrying out attacks on Iranian-backed groups and military points belonging to the Syrian army from time to time.
