Israel names ex-envoy to Egypt to lead Morocco mission
David Goffrin will head to Rabat to reopen Israel’s liaison office in Morocco
JERUSALEM (AA) – Israel has named its former ambassador to Egypt, David Goffrin, as its temporary charge d’affaires in Morocco, the Public Broadcasting Corporation reported on Monday.
Goffrin will head to Rabat soon to reopen Israel’s liaison office in Morocco, the broadcaster said.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has yet to confirm the appointment.
In 2000, Morocco closed its liaison office in Israel, and the Israeli office in Rabat, in response to the Israeli violent response to the second Palestinian intifada and suspension of peace talks with the Palestinians.
But last month, Morocco announced the reopening of their liaison offices under a US-sponsored deal to normalize relations with Israel.
