JERUSALEM / ISTANBUL (AA) - The Israeli army claimed Wednesday that it had intercepted a drone launched from Yemen by the Houthi group.
A military statement said that the drone was shot down by the Israeli Air Force.
The army said the drone attack had triggered air-raid sirens, but did not provide details about injuries or damage.
The daily Maariv said that the drone was intercepted over the Eshkol Regional Council area, northwest of the Negev in southern Israel.
There was no immediate Houthi confirmation of the Israeli claim.
The Houthis have intensified missile and drone strikes on Israel since Israeli forces resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip in March after two months of a shaky ceasefire.
Since November 2023, the group has also targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where more than 61,000 victims have been killed in an Israeli onslaught.
