Israeli army demolishes 4 Palestinian homes in West Bank

Israel widely uses pretext of lack of construction permits to demolish Palestinian homes

By Awad al-Rujoub

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army on Tuesday demolished four Palestinian-owned homes in the occupied West Bank, according to a local official.

Fouad al-Amour, coordinator of the so-called Protection and Resilience Committee in the southern West Bank, said the four houses were constructed in two Bedouin communities in Yatta town, south of Hebron city.

On Monday, municipal councilor Nidal Younis said Israeli authorities had notified residents of Masafer Yatta community of plans to demolish several Palestinian structures due to the launch of a military drill in the area.

Israel widely uses the pretext of lack of construction permits to demolish Palestinian homes, especially in Area C of the occupied West Bank, which constitutes around 60% of its space.

Under the 1995 Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, was divided into three portions – Area A, B, and C.

Area C is under Israel’s administrative and security control until a final status agreement is reached with the Palestinians.
