Air-raid sirens sounded in central Israel, occupied Jerusalem areas

ANKARA (AA) - A ballistic missile was fired late Friday from Yemen toward Israel, triggering air-raid sirens in central Israel, including in occupied Jerusalem and some West Bank settlements.

The Israeli army said it managed to intercept the missile with air defenses before entering Israel's airspace.

Israel's Channel 12 reported that the Ben Gurion Airport suspended flights at the time of the missile's firing.

The Yemeni Houthi group is yet to comment on the incident.

It marks the fourth time a missile has been launched from Yemen toward Israel since the signing of a Jan. 19 ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, which Israel subsequently violated and resumed its onslaught on Gaza earlier this week.

As of Saturday, the US military, under the direction of President Donald Trump, started aerial raids against Houthi-controlled territories in Yemen, killing nearly 80 victims, according to Houthi officials.

Undeterred by the attacks and threats, the Houthis vowed to continue military operations against Israeli-linked ships until the Israeli aggression on Gaza is stopped and aid allowed into Gaza.

In solidarity with Gaza, Houthis had attacked Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones since late 2023, disrupting global trade.

The group halted attacks when the Gaza ceasefire was declared in January. But it threatened to resume the attacks when Israel blocked all aid into Gaza on March 2.
