Israeli army says it intercepted drone from Yemen

- There was no Houthi comment on Israeli claim

JERUSALEM/ISTANBUL (AA) – The Israeli army claimed on Wednesday to have intercepted a drone by the Houthi group in Yemen.

A military statement said that the drone was shot down by Israeli warplanes.

Israeli Channel 12, citing an unnamed army spokesperson, said that the drone was intercepted near the Egyptian border, without providing further details.

No details were provided about injuries or damage.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthi group on the Israeli claim.

The Houthis have intensified missile and drone strikes on Israel since Tel Aviv resumed military attacks on Gaza in March.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have also targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where more than 54,600 people have been killed in the Israeli offensive.
