Israel attacks Aleppo airport for 2nd time in week

By Mohamed Mesto

ISTANBUL (AA) – An Israeli attack on Aleppo airport in northwestern Syria has taken it out of service and diverted flights to Damascus, according to the regime's news agency SANA late Tuesday.

“The Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression, with a number of missiles, from the direction of the Mediterranean to the West of Latakia, targeting Aleppo international airport,” said SANA, citing a military source.

The damage caused by the attack took the airport out of service.

The Assad regime's Transport Ministry said in a statement that "all scheduled and programmed flights through Aleppo International Airport will be diverted to Damascus International Airport, following the Israeli aggression that targeted Aleppo Airport and led to it being out of service," the news agency added.

On Aug. 31, Aleppo airport was subjected to an Israeli bombardment, which took it out of service for two days.

Israel has carried out several airstrikes in Syria, targeting positions of the Assad regime's forces and Iranian troops stationed there.
