Israeli police officer injured in alleged stabbing attack in occupied East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM/ An Israeli police officer was injured in an alleged stabbing attack in occupied East Jerusalem's Old City on Friday evening, according to Israeli media.

The Times of Israel reported, citing a police statement, that the perpetrator was shot by other police officers in the area.

It did not, however, provide any further information about the perpetrator.

The stabbed security officer's condition is described by the daily as moderate.

No Palestinian group has yet commented on the incident.

Tensions have escalated across the Palestinian territories since Israel launched a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, killing over 53,000 Palestinians and leaving the majority of the enclave in ruins.
