Israeli president congratulates Erdogan on his reelection

ANKARA (AA) – Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday evening congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his victory in the presidential runoff election.

Herzog stated in congratulatory tweets in Turkish and Hebrew, "I congratulate President @RTErdogan over his victory in the elections."

“We will further the good relations already existing between Türkiye and Israel while continue working together,” Herzog added.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been reelected Türkiye’s president in runoff elections, the chairman of the country's Supreme Election Council (YSK) said late Sunday evening.

On May 14, no candidate received the required 50% of the vote in the first round, triggering the presidential runoff, though Erdogan took the lead with 49.52%. On that day Erdogan's electoral alliance also won a majority of seats in parliament.

Herzog's visit to Türkiye in March, followed by reciprocal visits by both countries' foreign ministers, contributed to easing relations after more than a decade of tensions.
