Israeli security arrests minor on suspicion of spying for Iran

Israeli security claims suspect carried out several tasks on direction of his Iranian handlers, including photographing sites, printing posters

JERUSALEM/ Israeli security on Friday announced the arrest of a 16-year-old teen on suspicion of committing spy activity in favor of Iran in exchange for payment.

A joint statement by the Israeli police and domestic security service (Shin Bet) said the teen was arrested and held for interrogation, revealing that the suspect was "in contact for several months with Iranian terrorist operatives online."

"He was instructed by them to purchase a new mobile phone and install a designated app for communication purposes," the statement also said, which did not reveal the name of the suspect.

The statement also claimed that the suspect carried out several tasks at the direction of his Iranian handlers, including photographing sites and printing posters.

There was no immediate comment from Iran on the Israeli claim.

In recent years, Iran and Israel announced on several occasions the dismantling of spy networks amid continued rivalry between the two arch-foes.
