Israel’s Lapid slams ‘Jewish terrorists’ after settler attack on Palestinian town

JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid on Tuesday termed a new settler attack on the Palestinian town of Huwara as “criminal violence by Jewish terrorists.”

Four Palestinians, including a child, were hurt on Monday when dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the town, south of Nablus. Damage was also reported in the attack.

"Another night of criminal violence by Jewish terrorists in Huwara, Nablus," Lapid said. "These people do not represent us. They are not part of us."

"The [Bezalel] Smotrich and [Itamar] Ben Gvir militias are the real anarchists. They must be arrested and prosecuted," he added, in reference to the finance and national security ministers.

Monday’s attack came a few days after Israeli settlers savagely attacked the same town on Feb. 26, burning several Palestinian homes and vehicles. A Palestinian was also killed.

The settler violence followed the killing of two Israelis in a shooting in the town.

Nearly 75 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of the year, according to Palestinian figures. Twelve Israelis were also killed in attacks by Palestinians.
