Italian foreign minister says he 'does not want to have anything to do with AfD'

LONDON (AA) - The Italian foreign minister said Friday he hopes Italians in Germany do not vote for the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

"Also because that party does not have any liking for Italy," Antonio Tajani told state news agency ANSA in Berlin where he arrived for a European People’s Party (EPP) leaders' meeting.

Asked about possible alliances with the AfD and collaborations between the EPP and far-right parties in Europe, Tajani said: "I have nothing to do with AfD and I don't want to have anything to do with it."

"I am light years away from their ideology," he added.
