Italy says remains committed to implement Gaza peace plan, reconstruction

LONDON (AA) - Italy's foreign minister on Saturday said Rome will continue its commitment to implement the Gaza peace plan and reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave also involving the Italian private sector.

Antonio Tajani attended a meeting together with European and regional partners on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany with the attendance of Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin.

"The reconstruction of #Gaza was the focus of today's meeting in #Munich," he wrote on the US social media platform X.

He said Italy is on the front line with a $60 million plan for humanitarian aid, demining activities, strengthening health and education facilities, renovating housing for displaced persons, and more broadly supporting Palestinian institutions.

"We will continue our commitment to implementing the Peace Plan and rebuilding the Strip, involving also our private sector," said Tajani.

The foreign minister noted that the key goal now is to maintain the ceasefire, which was reached in October, "whereas the endgame is to have the conditions for a Two-State solution" to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"This is why we deem unacceptable any attempt to annex Palestinian territories," he added.

Israel killed more than 71,000 people in Gaza over a period of two years, starting in October 2023, almost leveling it to the ground.
