Italy's Serie A clubs can resume training by May 18
Italian football clubs can restart training on May 18 but date for football leagues to resume still uncertain
By Baris Seckin
ROME (AA) – The Italian football federation (FIGC) is looking to restart training after the announcement that measures against the coronavirus outbreak will be eased on May 4.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Sunday said though the restart dates are still uncertain, sports teams can resume their training on May 18.
After his statement, Gabriele Gravina, head of the Italian football federation, said: ''We always expressed our desire to restart the season when the certain conditions are met. The government's perspective on easing restrictions for coronavirus allows us to do this. ''
Gravina said failure to complete Serie A play would harm the sport in Italy, adding that he called for a federation executive board meeting on May 8.
Serie A was suspended on March 9, but demands for restarting it have been growing. Vincenzo Spadafora, Italy’s minister for sport and youth policy, favors holding matches without spectators, at least initially.
