ISTANBUL (AA) - Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara reappointed Robert Beugre Mambe as prime minister, following the resignation of the government in the wake of December’s legislative elections, a presidential decree said Wednesday.
Ouattara tasked Mambe with forming a new government “as soon as possible,” according to the decree that was read in a broadcast.
The president accepted the resignations of Mambe and his government on Jan.7, paving the way for a new government following legislative elections that were held on Dec. 27.
Pending the appointment of a new prime minister and members of the government, the outgoing prime minister and members of the government would be responsible for handling affairs.
Ouattara’s ruling party, Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace, secured a majority in the National Assembly, winning 197 of the 255 seats.
The legislative elections followed presidential polls on Oct. 25, in which Ouattara won a fourth term with nearly 90% of the vote.
