July 15 photo exhibition opens in Kosovo

Anadolu Agency images from attempted coup displayed in Pristina

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - An exhibition of Anadolu Agency photos taken during Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt went on display in Kosovo's capital Pristina on Tuesday.

Titled "Greetings from Kosovo to Turkey and Democracy: AA Photos," the exhibition was organized by Turkey's Yunus Emre Institute's Pristina branch.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Institute Director Mehmet Ulker said that there were 52 images on display from the night of the attempted coup.

"These photos have great importance because they show the aftermath of the coup and the betrayal against democracy in Turkey," he added.

Turkish Ambassador to Kosovo, Kivilcim Kilic praised Turkish people's efforts to preserve democracy in the country.

"The Anadolu Agency photos which are on display here depict the events of that night and this great struggle for democracy," she said.

The exhibition will run until November 12.

The July 15 defeated coup had left 241 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

The government accuses the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) leader, Fetullah Gulen, of being the mastermind behind the coup attempt and a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the “parallel state”.

Gulen has been living in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania since 1999.

Turkey is currently under a state of emergency following the defeated coup and had the order extended for three more months from Oct. 19.
