Kazakhstan expands rare metals sector with new gallium antimony production lines in 2026

ISTANBUL (AA) - Kazakhstan plans to expand its rare metals sector in 2026 by launching new production lines for gallium and refined antimony, Industry and Construction Minister Ersayin Nagaspayev said Tuesday.

Speaking at a government meeting, Nagaspayev said gallium will be supplied under an offtake contract between Eurasian Resources Group and Mitsubishi Corporation, signed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Japan in December.

Under the deal, the two sides agreed to procure an average of 15 tons of gallium per year for several years starting in 2026, according to Kyodo News.

Nagaspayev said developing the rare metals industry presents significant opportunities to diversify Kazakhstan’s economy and create high-tech industries.

“Currently, domestic products are export-oriented and used by leading global manufacturers of aviation and marine equipment, aircraft engines, electronics and electric vehicles,” he said.

He added that products such as technical selenium and high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate are also used in alternative energy applications.
