Labour MP 'in critical condition' post UK street attack

LONDON (AA) – A U.K. opposition lawmaker is in a critical condition after apparently being shot on the street in her electoral district in northern England, police say.

Labour Party MP Jo Cox suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized following the attack on Thursday afternoon in the town of Birstall near Leeds.

A 52-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Local police said they were deploying more officers to the area “as a reassurance to the community.”
