Largest Indian air carrier says flight operations 'normal' after days of disruptions

Authorities order IndiGo airlines to cut 10% of flights

NEW DELHI (AA) - IndiGo airlines said Tuesday that it reinstated flight “operations across our network” after days of “significant and steady improvement in India.

“This means all flights published on our website are scheduled to operate with an adjusted network,” it said in a statement. “We have optimised our operations, and our on-time performance is also back to normal levels.”

It added that the airline was operating more than 1,800 flights, and planned to fly nearly 1,900 flights Wednesday.

“We have optimised our operations, and our on-time performance is also back to normal levels,” it added.

IndiGo cancelled flights by the hundreds last week in different parts of the country, causing outrage in India. Authorities have ordered a high-level investigation.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu wrote on US social media company X that while the enquiry and necessary actions are underway, IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers was summoned to the ministry.

Elbers “confirmed that 100% of the refunds for flights affected till 6th December have been completed,” said Naidu, attributing “internal mismanagement of crew rosters, flight schedules and inadequate communication,” for the disruptions.

He also said the ministry considers it necessary to curtail the overall IndiGo routes, “which will help in stabilizing the airline’s operations and lead to reduced cancellations.”

“A curtailment of 10 % has been ordered,” he said, adding the airline has been instructed to comply with all the directives of the ministry.

Naidu informed the parliament Tuesday that "strict and appropriate action will be taken" against IndiGo.
