Latin American countries condemn deadly terror attack in Istanbul

Countries in region expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in explosion

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Condolences have poured in from Latin American leaders following the terrorist attack that killed six people and injured 81 others in Istanbul.

Sunday's deadly explosion that took place in the Beyoglu district was carried out by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, according to Turkish authorities. The suspect, a Syrian woman, has been arrested, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said.

Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil and other Latin American countries condemned the attack that targeted Istiklal Street and expressed their solidarity with the people of Türkiye.


- Venezuela

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry took to Twitter to offer condolences to the Turkish people.

"The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela trusts that the Turkish authorities will clarify the facts and identify those responsible. The Venezuelan government sends its feelings of fraternity and solidarity to the Turkish people and their government led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan."


- Colombia

The Colombian Foreign Ministry also expressed its condolences for those who lost their lives in the terror attack.

"We express our deep sorrow over the explosion that occurred on Istiklal Street. We stand with the people of Istanbul at this most sorrowful time and express our solidarity with the affected citizens and wish a speedy recovery to the injured."


- Mexico

In a statement, the Mexican Foreign Ministry expressed regret over the damage and loss of lives caused by the bomb attack in Istanbul. The Mexican government expressed condolences to the Turkish people, the government and the families of the victims and condemned all acts of violence.


-Ecuador

Ecuador rejected the “act of terrorism” and said the country stands “in solidarity” with Türkiye.

"The government and people of Ecuador stand in solidarity with Turkey in the face of the horrific attack in Istanbul and reject this act of terrorism," Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter.


- Peru

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed its sincere condolences to the Turkish people and government for the attack in Istanbul.

"We reject all acts of violence that violate the values and principles that promote peaceful coexistence," the statement said.


- Panama

The Panamanian government said it is “saddened by the loss of life in the explosion on Istanbul's famous Istiklal Street.”

“We extend our condolences and solidarity to the people and government of Turkey."


- Costa Rica

In a statement, the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condolences to the Turkish people and government for the victims of the explosion.


- Chile

The Chilean government also condemned the attack and expressed its "deep sorrow" for those who were killed and injured in the explosion.

"We offer our sincere condolences to the government and people of Turkey and wish a speedy recovery to the injured."


- Brazil, Paraguay

Brazilian Foreign Ministry condemned the terrorist attack and wished healing to the wounded. Paraguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs “expressed its solidarity and regret for the loss of lives.”
