Latin American countries continue to fight COVID-19

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Countries across Latin America reported new COVID-19 infections and fatalities on Sunday, according to official data.

- Brazil

In the country that is the world's third worst-hit by the virus, a total of 990 people lost their lives and 43,033 people caught the virus over the past 24 hours.

The death toll rose to 562,752, and confirmed cases exceeded 20.15 million, according to the Health Ministry.

The country has reported over 18.89 million recoveries so far.

- Mexico

According to the Health Ministry, Mexico's COVID-19 case tally surged by 20,018, and 515 fatalities were added to the death toll over the past day.

The country so far has recorded nearly 2.96 million cases, 244,248 deaths, and over 2.31 million recoveries.

- Argentina

A total of 9,803 coronavirus infections have raised Argentina's case tally to over 5 million, according to Health Ministry data.

The nationwide death toll rose to 107,302 as 89 patients died over the past day. More than 4.65 million recoveries were also reported.

-Colombia

Colombia's Health Ministry reported a total of 190 new fatalities over the past day, raising the country's virus death toll to 122,277. The total number of cases is over 4.8 million, with 6,051 new infections in the country, while the number of recoveries stood at over 4.6 million.

- Chile

Over the past day, Chile reported 71 deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 35,951, according to the country's Health Ministry. The number of infections rose by 938, over the 1.62 million mark, with total recoveries reaching 1.57 million.

-Paraguay

According to data from Paraguay's Health Ministry, a total of 30 people died due to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 15,268.

The country reported 323 new cases, raising total infections to 454,865, while recoveries reached 426,836.

- Guatemala

According to local media in Guatemala, the country reported 70 fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 10,714.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose by 3,998 to reach 389,510.
A total of 339,087 people have recovered from the virus.
