Lebanese president arrives in Iraq for talks on bilateral relations

BEIRUT / ANKARA (AA) - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun arrived in Baghdad on Sunday for talks with Iraqi officials to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

According to official statements released by both the Iraqi prime minister’s office and the Lebanese presidency, Aoun’s visit comes upon a formal invitation extended by Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid.

The presidency said Aoun will meet with his Iraqi counterpart and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to discuss bilateral ties and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation across various sectors. The leaders will also address current developments in the regional landscape.

Sudani’s office confirmed that the Iraqi premier personally received the Lebanese president upon his arrival in Baghdad.

While neither side disclosed the duration of the visit, it is expected to include extensive discussions on political, economic, and security cooperation between the two nations.
