Liverpool to face Man City in highly anticipated clash on Sunday

ANKARA (AA) - The English Premier League will see highly anticipated matches this weekend, including the showdown between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday.

League leaders Liverpool will take on second-placed Manchester City at the Anfield Stadium in Liverpool.

In six matches, Liverpool have bagged 14 points, while visitors Manchester City have racked up 13 to chase the Reds.

However, they are not alone in the top spots of the league as several clubs are challenging them in the standings.

Like Man City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, and Brighton & Hove Albion have 13 points in the league, which means a relentless competition is going on among these clubs.

Home team Liverpool's regular Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the Manchester City showdown, the club confirmed.

The Reds' right back had a "muscle issue". In addition, Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara was said to be "recovering from a calf injury," so he is expected to be unavailable.

Meanwhile in Manchester City, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and left back Oleksandr Zinchenko ruled out for the match at Anfield.

"Everyone is fit except Zinchenko and Gundogan," Man City manager Pep Guardiola said.

"We expect both back after the international break, hopefully," Guardiola added.

The Liverpool-Man City showdown will kick off at 1530GMT.

On Saturday, Manchester United will play against Everton at home, the other hotly anticipated match of this weekend.

Manchester United said on website that wing forward Marcus Rashford returned to training after a shoulder surgery.

"We’ve got to make a decision on him (Rashford). Marcus trained fully for the first time today with contact. There were a few tackles flying in on him and he seemed okay, which was nice to see," Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

However, Solskjaer is unsure to pick left back Luke Shaw for the match squad as the player suffers from an illness and a shoulder problem.

"Luke feels better in himself. He’s been ill but he’s still got the shoulder injury," Solskjaer said.

Meanwhile, Everton are troubled by several injuries.

"(Everton Manager) Rafa Benitez has confirmed Everton will again be without Seamus Coleman, Richarlison, Andre Gomes and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Manchester United (12.30pm BST) – but says the quartet are improving “little by little” as they target a return to competitive action," the club said.

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph is very likely to miss the Manchester United clash due to a shoulder injury, the club added.

The match at Old Trafford will start at 1130GMT.
