LVMH to turn off lights earlier in stores

ISTANBUL (AA) - LVMH announced Thursday it would turn off lights earlier than usual in its stores, starting with France and then worldwide, to save energy.

The France-based international luxury goods conglomerate said in a statement that lights will remain switched off between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Following energy saving calls from the French government, the company, which owns Louis Vuitton among others, said it has taken two measures to reduce the electricity consumption by 10% over the next year.

It will also lower temperature settings in all industrial and administrative sites, and stores: minus 1 C in winter and plus 1 C in summer.

The French government has appealed to individuals, households and businesses to consume less energy as the country faces a shortage of electricity, gas and fuel in the wake of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Among the measures to cut down energy use is switching off the lights of Eiffel Tower.

Several towns and cities are addressing the problem by switching off lights on public buildings and streets when not in use.
