KUALA LUMPUR (AA) - The first person convicted of financial terrorism in Malaysia was jailed for seven years on Monday, local media reported.
Bukhori Che Noor, 35, from Penang state, was jailed at Kuala Lumpur High Court for allowing wanted terrorist Muhammad Wandy Mohamed Jedi to use his bank accounts to carry out Daesh activities in Malaysia.
Noor had pleaded guilty and received the minimum term, the New Straits Times newspaper reported.
“You should have known better because you are 35 years old and should know what is good or bad,” Judge Azman Abdullah said.
“The government is fighting the threat of Daesh which is a new threat to the country, after communism in the early years.”
Syria-based Jedi is alleged to have recruited Malaysians to Daesh and orchestrated terror attacks in Malaysia, including last June’s grenade attack on a Kuala Lumpur bar. Noor was arrested shortly after the attack.
