Marc Gasol returns to Spanish top-tier basketball league after 14 years

37-year-old Spaniard scores 21 points with Girona in a season opener loss against Real Madrid

ISTANBUL (AA) - NBA Champion Marc Gasol returned to the Spanish ACB league after 14 years with a season opener game.

Real Madrid tasted a 88- 94 win over the Girona basketball team as Gasol showed amazing performance, producing 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven rebounds.

Gasol, the owner of the Girona club, averaged 14.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in the second division with his team last season, leading them to the top division.

Gasol, a three-time NBA All-Star, claimed the NBA title in 2019 with Eastern Conference franchise Toronto Raptors of Canada.

The 37-year-old made appearances for Barcelona and Girona before his move to the NBA in 2008.

Gasol is a Spanish national team veteran, having won gold medals in the 2006 and 2019 FIBA World Cup tournaments.
