Maria Sole Agnelli of Fiat's founder family dies at age of 100

Agnelli served as Umbrian mayor from 1960 to 1970, led family's business for 14 years

ISTANBUL (AA) - Maria Sole Agnelli, who is a member of the family that founded Italy's carmaker Fiat, died on Friday at the age of 100 near Rome.

"Maria Sole Agnelli passed away today. She was the sister of Gianni and Susanna Agnelli, and served as President of the Agnelli Foundation for fourteen years, until 2018. She had celebrated her 100th birthday on August 9 of this year," Agnelli Foundation announced in a written statement.

Agnelli died at her villa on the Torrimpietra estate near Rome.

She was the mayor of Campello sul Clitunno town in Italy's central Umbria region from 1960 to 1970.

For 14 years, until 2018, she was president of the Agnelli Foundation.

She was also known to have owned horses, one of which won a silver medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
