MEXICO CITY (AA) - President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reminded US President Joe Biden on Wednesday of the “38 million Mexicans living abroad and working in the US" as the American leader was being inaugurated.
Lopez Obrador wished Biden luck at the ceremony taking place in Washington but focused on the new administration's migration plan. He said he proposed to Biden and urged the US to grant proper documentation to Mexican migrants who have been living and working in the US.
The proposition of the Mexican president is a joint effort and will address economic and social conditions that afflict Central American countries and the southern regions of Mexico facing “the migration phenomenon with development and well-being," he said.
Lopez Obrador also lauded the relationship between Mexico and the former US administration of Donald Trump, which he described as "beneficial for Mexico" and said there was no friction between the two nations.
"I thank President Trump, who ends his term, for the way he treated us, and I have no doubt, I am at peace, optimistic because there is going to be a good relationship with President Biden," he added.
