Mexico's unemployment rate rises to 2.8% in April

ISTANBUL (AA) - Mexico's unemployment rate increased to 2.8% in April on an unadjusted seasonal basis, according to data from the country’s statistical institute Friday.

While the figure came in line with the market expectation, it was an increase from 2.4% in March.

The economically active population was 60.6 million people in April, which was 1.1 million higher than the same month of last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) figures.

In April, a total of 58.9 million people, or 97.2%, were employed among the economically active population. This was 1.2 million more compared to the same month of 2022.

The unemployed population was 1.7 million people in April, the figures showed.

In April, at a monthly rate and with seasonally adjusted figures, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.8%, according to INEGI.
