By Aamir Latif

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - A minor girl was killed in a firing at disputed Kashmir border, a Pakistani army spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.

Pakistan accused Indian border forces of restoring to "unprovoked" firing that killed an eight-year-old girl.

"Indian army committed unprovoked firing on civil population in Chirikot Sector, resulting in to shahadat (martyrdom) of an eight year old girl", the army spokesman said.

Pakistan army befittingly responded to Indian forces firing, the spokesman added.

The clash occurred when millions of Muslims across the border were celebrating Eid al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice. The four-day Eid al-Adha, during which Muslims traditionally sacrifice animals and distribute the meat to poor communities, is one of the most important holidays on the Islamic calendar.

Kashmir, a Muslim-majority Himalayan region, is held by India and Pakistan in parts and claimed by both in full. A small sliver of Kashmir is also held by China.
