Montenegro declares Russian diplomat persona non grata

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – Montenegro on Friday declared a Russian diplomat persona non grata for violating diplomatic norms.

According to the Foreign Ministry, an official notice, which sets a 72-hour deadline for leaving Montenegro's territory, was presented to the diplomat serving with the Russian Embassy in Podgorica.

"The reason for making this decision is an assessment of the Russian diplomat's activities, which contravene the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, made by relevant security institutions in Montenegro," said the ministry in a statement.

Montenegro on Wednesday joined the EU's sanctions on Russia following its war on Ukraine.
