Multiple deaths reported at US church shooting

WASHINGTON (AA) - Police have reported casualties after an unidentified male allegedly opened fire inside a church during Sunday service in the state of Texas.

Officials have not provided details but local television station KSAT 12 said police confirmed “multiple deaths.” A number of wounded have been transported to local hospitals with undisclosed injuries.

The gunman is reportedly dead but it is unknown if he killed himself or was killed by police or by someone else. Texas allows firearms to be carried with a permit.

The FBI and other law enforcement officials are on the scene at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a rural town about 35 miles East of San Antonio.

President Donald Trump, who is on a Asian tour, tweeted that he is following the events. “May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan,” he wrote.
