Multiple people injured in stabbing at Walmart in US

ISTANBUL (AA) - Several people were stabbed Saturday at a Walmart store in the US state of Michigan, with police confirming a suspect is in custody and an investigation is underway.

Michigan State Police said the situation unfolded shortly after 5 pm (2100GMT) in Traverse City and described it as an “active incident,” with multiple law enforcement units and first responders deployed to the scene.

Witnesses said more than five individuals were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, though officials have not confirmed the number.

“There is no danger to the public at this time,” authorities said, urging people to avoid the area and nearby businesses. The Walmart store and surrounding businesses have been cordoned off as a precaution.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, while police said information remains limited.

Emergency crews remain at the scene as officials continue their response and gather additional details.
