Munich airport suspends flights for 2nd day due to drone sightings

Dozens of flights canceled, diverted in latest disruption affecting 6,500 passengers

ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany’s Munich Airport suspended flight operations late Friday for a second consecutive day after multiple drone sightings forced air traffic control to cancel or divert dozens of flights, according to the airport.

It said 23 arriving flights were diverted, 12 flights to Munich were canceled, and 46 departures were canceled or postponed until Saturday, affecting around 6,500 passengers.

“As on the previous night, Munich Airport worked with the airlines to immediately provide for passengers in the terminals,” it noted.

Munich Airport suspended all flights Thursday due to multiple drone sightings, grounding 17 departing flights and diverting 15 incoming flights, before reopening Friday.

It happened as multiple EU states, including Poland, Romania, Estonia and Denmark have recently reported airspace violations, or disruptions by drones.

Russia, which has been accused of the violations, denies involvement.
